I have three mini pot bellied pigs as pets. I contacted code enforcement in my city before rescuing them and was told I could have them if they lived in my house. Now, after almost 5 years, a code enforcement officer came to my door and told me that I can not have them anymore. When I contacted the city manager regarding this, I was told that the ordinance says no farm animals, and that I was never told that I could have them in my home. This is not true, and I would have never got them had I been told this when I asked. These pigs are very smart, loving, and devoted pets. We love them. They are really no different than caring for a dog. Pigs are extremely structured and do not do well with change. It is very traumatic for them. This breaks our hearts. I am asking my city zoning and ordinance department to amend the ordinance to make an exception for mini pigs as pets. These animals are very popular today and live in thousands of homes in the United States. If cities do not change these ordinances to accept the differences between a farm hog and a mini pig we are going to end up needing many more pig rescues!
