Wasted electricity in the Orillia Public Library after hours
I happen to drive past the new Orillia Public Library most evenings, and I noticed a pattern with the electricity used in the building. It could be 10pm or 4am any day of the week, and I noticed that every light in the building was turned on even with (what looks to be) no one in the building. This isn't just a couple of small lights here and there, these are full rows and bays of fluorescent lighting that stay on 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I believe this to be a very big issue regarding energy waste when in this day and age we are trying to cut back on energy consumption. By leaving the lights on 24 hours per day, we are directing taxpayers money away from more important issues in the city as well as the environmental impact this has on the world.
Potential solutions: have the cleaning staff turn off lights when finished cleaning; Install motion sensors to limit energy waste; or Limit the lights used after hours through timers.
This petition will be taken to Council once a substantial amount of signatures have been acquired. Please take the time to sign the petition and show your support for putting a stop to this waste of electricity and money.
