The Northampton School Committee is holding a vote on July 9, 2020. The vote  is to decide whether to eliminate our Community Resource Officer Josh Wallace who works with Douglas the Comfort Dog; or to keep their positions, resources and supports that are successfully in place.
With the rise of bullying and school shootings our Resource Officer is a vital tool for providing a safe learning environment for all the school kids. He is a safety expert, law enforcer and problem solver but most importantly he is a liaison to all our community resources. He is that missing link for so many kids who do not have the support and guidance at home.
Officer Wallace and Douglas the Comfort Dog have a wonderful rapport with so many of the students in our schools, which translates into a secure, trusting and engaging environment to master the hurdles and difficulties of everyday student life. Eliminating this resource in the setting of the “Black Lives Matter” and the Covid 19 pandemic is contrary to what our school community needs. Officer Wallace and Douglas are the ambassadors to building positive relationships between the students and all the members of our community.  In these trying times Douglas and Officer Wallace are a source of safety and security, compassion and hope. How would removing such valuable assets benefit our children and our community?
Please sign this petition so that we get the message to the School Committee members, who do not attend our schools daily, that Officer Wallace is an essential and important resource for all of our children.
