Please help close the Hereford Inlet Beach that has taken the life of my husband & others.

Help us save lives by signing this petition calling upon authorities to come together to close a small section of a North Wildwood, New Jersey beach where my husband Brad Smith was killed in July of 2012 while walking – just walking with our daughter Brandy (seen in the picture with Brad) along the shoreline.

Brad, his best friend Scott, Brandy and two of Scott’s children were taking a walk on the beach in ankle deep water.  Twice a day, every day, vortexes are created in the Hereford Inlet when the back bay water is moving into the ocean.  These vortexes eat away the beach causing a drop-off that cannot be seen by anyone except an experienced lifeguard.  There was no warning of the vortexes nor the drop-offs.  My husband and daughter would never have been walking on the beach had there been a warning of these known dangers.

It was a result of ongoing litigation against North Wildwood and the State of New Jersey that we learned that the Beach Patrol knew of these dangers years before my husband’s drowning.  Once you are caught in the vortex even experienced swimmers may not be able to save themselves.

We need to let thousands of tourists that go to the Hereford Inlet Beach in North Wildwood know that this area is unsafe and needs to be closed.  What happened to my husband Brad and the impact that his death has had on me and our children should never happen to anyone else.

Thank you,

 Sandy Smith
