Newcastle Resident started this petition to City of Newcastle (Council)

The once peaceful, quiet and lovely Museum Park in Newcastle has recently become inhabited by skateboarders who represent a danger to the community, a nuisance to surrounding residents and who are destroying the tranquility of the once beautiful space.

For the residents of the many surrounding apartment buildings, the crashing, skidding, thumping, jumping and screeching of the skateboards on the park pavement, as well as the shouting and screaming of the skateboarders is extremely loud, very disrupting and incredibly disrespectful. This occurs every day of the week, from as early as 8am to as late as 11pm at night.

The skateboarding is often accompanied with the illegal consumption of alcohol and tobacco in this public space, which represents a significant danger to the users of the park and only enhances the severity of the loud noises, swearing and bad behaviour.

The skateboarding also continues to result in the physical damage and demise of the park infrastructure, including marking and damage to benches, litter around the park and graffiti on surfaces.

As stated on the City of Newcastle website, there are numerous dedicated skating facilities within close proximity. Why should this type of behaviour be allowed to destroy Museum Park?

So please, sign this petition, share it with your friends, contact the City of Newcastle and lets get skateboarding banned in Museum Park, for the safety of the community and peace of the residents.
