June Burnaman started this petition to City of Nederland Mayor and

We, the citizens of Nederland Texas, demand for the leaders of our city to address the stormwater drainage in our town.

All too often, after any rain period, we find our roads and yards flooded. Yards remain heavily saturated with standing water for days. The high amounts of standing water in our community can be dangerous with an influx of mosquitos.

With Hurricane Season approaching, families who have struggled with flooded houses after Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Imelda, are yet again fearing for their property and personal belongings because the city has not adequately addressed drainage issues in their neighborhoods.

If we want to be proud of our community we cannot have it constantly flood every time it rains even an inch.

This problem has been ongoing in our city for decades. Very little improvement has been seen while our cost of water and sewer rises annually.

We demand for transparency in how these fees for water and sewer are being utilized.

Enough is enough!

By signing this petition we pledge to vote for council members and a mayor who show they are committed to improving our city not only by words but by actions.

We as citizens pledge to do our part in keeping ditches clean but we also expect the City to do their part as well in helping with the ongoing maintenance of these ditches. We want to see an improved water flow that would make the water drain quicker.

We would like to see the city council consult with experts in this field to improve the current drainage problems we have. We want transparency into what is happening with the money and why the need for annual increases in fees when drainage hasn’t been fixed in decades. We want to see alley's put in place. We want to see a plan for action and we want to see this plan take place!

A great way to start would be to have the city consult with experts to determine what would need to be done and how much it would cost to improve the problem. If a lack of funds is an issue bring that concern to the citizens. Make it well known.
We want to continue to be proud of our community and we hope this petition will help make our voices heard.
