Stephanie P started this petition to City of Nanaimo and

Our city has erected fences around 2 public parks downtown; Piper Park and Pioneer Square. The Mayor claims that it is to maintain the parks. If the parks cannot be maintained as they are, they must be adapted to suit everyone who uses the parks. Fences do not solve anything. In fact, displacing people experiencing homelessness, negatively impacts their access services. The fences also have terrible mental effects since they so oppressively represent injustice and therefore contribute to entrenching divisions in the minds of our community. We don't need to keep driving people out of public space, we need to open that space and take down barriers.

Please contact the Mayor and the City directly as well.
