Save the Murfreesboro Little Theatre's Log Cabin Theatre and Save The Arts!

The City of Murfreesboro has abruptly decided to condemn the historic log cabin at 702 Ewing, across from MTSU campus.

The log cabin was built in 1939 by the Youth Council of the Works Progress Administration and was considered condemned in 2005 when Murfreesboro Little Theater (MLT) began leasing the property from the city. Under the terms of their lease, MLT brought the structure up to code with their own funds and volunteer assistance from the community.

The city has not yet provided details to MLT regarding the findings that have lead to this decision, but the MLT board of directors released a statement today indicating their desire to work with the city to save this historic landmark.

MLT was established in 1962 and is the longest continuously running community theater group in Middle Tennessee. In addition to maintaining this historic landmark, the Little Theatre provides plays, musicals, children's camps, theater workshops, poetry readings, and storytelling venues for the local community.

Please help save this historic venue which provides so much cultural value to the commuinty! Let the city of Murfreesboro know that their current plan to bulldoze the lot is unacceptable, and that our historic landmarks and cultural institutions should be cherished and preserved!

Official Statement by Murfreesboro Little Theatre

“We, unfortunately, have been blindsided. We learned of the extent of the issues via a WGNS article and still have yet to receive a report. We have had to learn that City Council members were giving tours of the theatre via Facebook Live. Murfreesboro Little Theatre wants to work with the City, but it appears the city does not want to work with us.

We have also been blindsided by the outpouring of support and love from the community. Though we knew we touched many throughout our 57 years, we did not realize the full extent. We are incredibly grateful to the community and are excited to continue to serve them.”
