Dear Mr. Polen and the Moncks Corner City Planning Commission,

As a resident of Foxbank parking has been a nuisance since buying a house here. As a neighborhood we have watched the construction of the fire department with anticipation of the luxury it is to have a fire department so close by. Since opening a week ago I have seen an handful cases where the fire department has not been able to do its job to the best of its ability due to a minority of Foxbank residents who  park in the street. Residents are parking on both sides of the street which can impede the flow of traffic. There have been multiple occasions where it is hard to drive a car through and impossible for a emergency vehicle to drive through. This concerns me because they are our first responders if they can’t get through the neighborhood then ems isn’t going to fit through the neighborhood either. Which has literally turned parking into a life or death situation. What if a child drowns? Or a loved one has a heart attack? Theses precious moments between a 911 call and getting first responders to a scene should not be delayed because a fire truck has to back out of a street to find an alternate route.
My proposition to you is for the city to come out and study the neighborhood then create no parking zones to insure that city rescue vehicles will always have a route through the neighborhood. The easiest course of action may be to limit parking to one side of the street. Code enforcement has told me they are unable to enforce parking because most of the cars do not break the rules they are allowed to write citations for. As a neighborhood we need you to take control of our streets and clean them up. Not only for our personal driving nuisances but for life saving vehicles.

Thank you,
Foxbank Plantation Residents
