Why this petition matters

The recent repaving of the Midtown Greenway trail from the Lakes to Midtown is unacceptable.

The trail surface is WAY too rough and contains dangerous gaps (see photo above).  It's full of tiny stones that create a jarring ride for cyclists, rollerbladers, wheelchair users, and others.

The trail is worse now than before Minneapolis Public Works repaved it.  Many people are now avoiding the trail altogether and/or biking in the pedestrian lane, which is smoother in some areas. This is dangerous to the public and a liability issue for the City of Minneapolis.

This is no way to maintain the most important commuter bike trail in Minneapolis and the Region. The Midtown Greenway should have a world-class trail surface, not one full of tiny rocks and vertical shifts in pavement.

We are calling on the Minneapolis Public Works Department to Re-Do the Re-Paving.  So far, they have only committed to taking a look at the trail again in the spring and hoping that somehow the surface miraculously improves over the winter.

The Midtown Greenway Coalition successfully advocated for this trail resurfacing and got it added to the City budget.  We had to wait 5 years for the City to finally do it, and it's a big fail.

Sign our Petition and tell Minneapolis Public Works that unless the trail surface miraculously repairs itself over the winter, they need to start over and Re-Do the Re-Pave this Spring.
