A whopping ~ 94% of plastic bags are NOT recycled. That means that roughly 940 BILLION (almost 2 million per minute) bags end up in our landfills and our environment - every year.

These bags clog our drainage systems, pollute our oceans, kill our wildlife, get broken down into micro plastic and end up in the water we drink, fish & salt we eat.

Plenty of research shows that a fee of 5 - 20 cents on shopping bags leads to
- ~40-50% reduction in plastic bags use
~50-90% reduction in bag litter
- increased awareness for environmental topics and support for other environmental policies
- millions of "bag tax" dollars being donated for good causes

Research also shows that paper bags (that have an environmental footprint too) must be included in the bag tax, to avoid increased usage.

We urge the city of Miami to follow the good example of many cities, states & countries and release a "bag tax" for all plastic and paper shopping bags.
