Needless cutting down of trees.

Hi. Folks. On July 27 the Miami City Commission will hear an appeal by me and other neighbors about a decision that the City has made to CUT DOWN 19 trees (palms) that have been planted and maintained over the years by neighbors in Shenandoah on city swails in front of multiple houses.  These palm trees are beautiful and rare and planted over 10 years ago, and have transformed a previously neglected part of Shenandoah's street scape.

Now the City of Miami wants to CUT DOWN 19 of these trees down as part of the COMPLETION PROCESS  for the taffic circle recently built on SW 14 Terr and 19 Ave., around which several mature trees were removed in order to carve out the circle.

We want to SAVE these trees and are therefore appealing this seemingly arbitrary decision because those trees add value and shade to our neighborhood and are rare Cuban Copernicia and Coccothrinax species never seen outside of Fairchild Tropical Garden, and because some of them are one or 2 blocks away(!) from the new Circle and have nothing to do with this recent intrusion into our neighborhood. Furthermore, some of the trees fall OUTSIDE  the scope of the bluprinted scope of the traffic circle work. Most of them cost in excess of $1000 each! The City is overreaching here.

I urge you to please sign this petition and consider emailing  each City commissioner (and have your friends and neighbors also do this) in order to express the outrage we all have at eliminating yet more shade from our lovely pedestrian neighborhood, regardless of the excuse.

We do not want the City of Miami to contribute extra to global warming. As you may know, it has the fewest trees of any American city it's size.

The Commissioners are: Keon Hardemon (, Francis Suarez (, Wilfredo Gort (, Frank Carrollo (, and Ken Russell (

Thank you.
