Another developer, driven only by greed and profits, wants to destroy one of Melbourne's last Gold Rush era pubs, and build yet another 26 storey apartment tower.
The Great Western Hotel on King Street, built in 1864 and trading continuously for over 150 years, is due to shut its doors in March, when a Chinese developer plans to destroy it and build another glass apartment block.
There is no heritage protection whatsoever on this building, and questions to the City of Melbourne have been met with silence.
Don't let this become another Palace Theatre where an unethical Chinese developer illegally ripped the insides out of the building to prevent it qualifying for heritage protection, or another Corkman Irish Pub, illegally demolished in the name of stupidity and greed.
The Melbourne CBD is becoming a soulless desert of glass apartment towers, more and more devoid of any remnants of our rich historical past.
Sign this petition to Robert Doyle, Lord Mayor of the City of Melbourne and let him know very clearly that enough is enough.
