Why this petition matters

Started by Nicole Frey

My name is Nicole and I am the Founder of a non-profit called the Animal Food Bank Foundation.  We supply pet food and supplies to pets of low income and the homeless, but also to shelters and rescues. We are headquartered in Medicine Hat, AB where we also provide food to the SPCA and APARC here as often as we can.

We have a feral cat problem in Medicine Hat largely due to the fact that the City Councill will not change the bylaw to allow a Trap & Release program (TNR). It seems they would rather let innocent cats suffer, continue to breed, to have the problem only get worse, and kittens die in the elements. It is shameful.

My amazing friend Linda, a cat (and animal) lover through and through, has been advocating for this change in bylaw to allow these cats to be humanely trapped, fixed, and adopted out where possible.  Where they are not able to be adopted out, they will be returned (sterile) to the environment they know.

In operation of the Animal Food Bank here we continually see low income clients taking in kittens due to this problem. We are then tasked with helping them feed them, with no help from the City and the City's bylaws to help us, as a community, prevent unwanted litters.

Please help us.

Sign and share this petition with everyone you know and across your social media.

Together we can make change and prevent the suffering of innocent cats, but also improve our community!

Thank you so much.
