With the light polution at an all time high, people have forgotten what all the stars look like.  I petition to require six consecutive hours of "dark time" where all lights outside are turned off.  This includes street lights, neon signs in windows, yard lights and anything else that is outside with the exception of vehicles.  The goal is to remove most, if not all, of the light dome around mason city to view the heaves as they should be viewed.  The goal hours of "dark time" would be 10:30pm to 6am.  This would be a great time to view several celestial objects that few people are afforded the opportunity to behold.

Stars gazing is one of the popular pastimes of the time.  Everyone from teenagers to grown adults can find joy in observing visible space. Unfortunately, most of iowa is covered by a dome of light non star views dont notice.  It isnt until the light dome is removed that we will fully be able to appreciate the natural beauty and wonder of the stars.
