Provide Funding to Under-Privileged Children for Summer Swim Passes

In the short time our children here in Marshalltown, Iowa have been out of school on summer vacation the community has lost 4 children to accidental drowning in the Iowa River. Instead of being in a safe-facility which is patrolled by lifeguards, these children and often-times their families are having to resort to swimming in the dangerous Iowa River in order to keep cool during near record-breaking temperatures and heat-indexes. These children and all children should have the opportunity to go to the city pool and not be turned away due to lack of proper funds. In addition we need to educate newcomers to Marshalltown about the dangers of swimming in rivers.  I challenge the city of Marshalltown, Iowa and their wonderful citizens to come up with a way to keep our beautiful children safe. For these families that can’t afford the cost of sending their children to the community pool and for ways to educate our newcomers to Marshalltown about the dangers of the Iowa River. Whether it be city-funded scholarships to these children or whether we as community members have to step up and take the reins and protect all of our community kids; let’s get these children and their families the resources that they need so that not another child is lost to the river.
