Drinking straws are littering Marco Island's beach in front of the establishments that serve straws.  These straws are a hazard to our birds, sea turtles and all wildlife.  They end up buried in the sand or in the Gulf of Mexico.  For many years now, Marco Island Beach Advisory Committee and concerned citizens have been attempting to work with the establishments to reduce/eliminate straws but to no avail.  Some have switched to a biodegradable plant-based material, but they continue to litter our beaches.

Please support the elimination of unnecessary single use plastic from being served beachfront, and encourage businesses to offer earth friendly biodegradable straws ONLY ON REQUEST to their patrons.  NO ONE but a stroke victim or physically challenged individual needs a drinking straw to enjoy a beverage.  Let this be the LAST STRAW.
