People who do not have a place to live need a specific facility to care for their own personal hygiene.
- City of Los Angeles and Dallas
All of us know there has been a growing epidemic in this country with homelessness. When people don’t have a proper place to care for their own personal hygiene such as washing their hands, brushing their teeth, showering or using the toilet, it often becomes an issue to residential neighborhoods, business establishments and the public right of way. Libraries, fast food places, streets/alleys and parks are not the place to care for personal hygiene on a regular basis. Many people who do not have shelter (place to live) want and need a proper place to care for their own personal hygiene.
Many larger municipalities are not doing enough to help with the growing issue of people living on the street. The public sector without a doubt needs to ramp up their effort and offer solutions AND tangible projects. With city owned surplus properties, there is certainly no lack of vacant land.
Is there much support to build such a public facility for the specific use by people who do not have a proper place to care for their personal hygiene? We truly believe that such a facility may prove to be beneficial to ALL of us. We are submitting a proposal for such a facility and hope that the City of Los Angeles take a serious look at it.
Though homelessness can be embarrassing, it should not be shameful. Can we not afford the downtrodden a little dignity and provide them with an element so basic to us - something that many of us take for granted in the comfort of our own lives?
