Mud Creek Boat Ramp has been a critical launching point for fisherman and boaters for decades. The land was given to the City of Lawrence in 1974 By the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and has been controlled by the city since then. The City of Lawrence Parks and Rec Department has decided to close the boat ramp this spring. Boulders were put in place to block boaters from using this ramp on February 15th. Closing this ramp is stopping access to a large portion of the Kansas River. Multiple State record fish have come from this area and it is used by catfisherman heavily. By closing this ramp they are stopping fisherman from passing down a way of life to future generations. Also with the sport of catfishing growing the are cutting down on the amount of out of town money coming into our town.
