Petition to STOP and amend the protected Lemon Street bike lane as proposed
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our Lancaster City leaders to act now to cease and amend the current proposal to make Lemon Street an eastbound bicycle connector route as previously proposed. Taking into consideration the decreased width of the proposed vehicle travel lanes, parking and the safety of bicyclists and motorists, we would ask you to consider the alternative (such as the bicycle lanes on Buchanan Ave or Hershey Ave) where the painted bike lane is placed on the traffic side of the parked vehicles. We urge exploring this new new plan to keep the current amount of parking available to us, residents of the city. We believe this to be a safer option as Lemon St. is a multidirectional street and visibility especially coming off southbound streets that cross Lemon (such as Pine St.) will be extremely dangerous as will passing stopped delivery vehicles into oncoming traffic. We are also concerned that street cleaning, leaf collection and snow removal will be much more difficult with the original proposal.
