Jurupa ACTION (Against Cell Towers In Our Neighborhoods)

Help our neighborhood stop Verizon from placing a 50’ communications tower, disguised as a water tower, in a residential zone at Galena and Tyrolite. Homes are in the immediate vicinity of the proposed project, which is over-sized and unsafe for the neighborhood. On two occasions the City Planning Commission considered the project, heard opposition and numerous concerns from citizens, and denied Verizon's application--most recently on September 27, 2017. Please help us stop Verizon’s final appeal by signing this petition.
Though many of us rely on cell towers on a daily basis, there are already several large towers in the area. We argue there should be careful consideration as to the placement of additional towers. We also believe that Verizon’s application is in conflict with the City’s General Plan policies related to safety (seismological) and to those preserving the aesthetics of the Jurupa Hills.
A 2017 environmental impact report completed for the city found that the site is located on an area of high liquefaction susceptibility and is within 5 miles of an active fault. Our concerns are grounded in facts. Also, if allowed to move forward, the project will be a climbing hazard in close proximity to 2 middle schools and a high school.
Finally, it is bad precedent to grant safety, aesthetics, and design policy exceptions to private companies. Ordinary citizens must abide by the City’s General Plan and policies. Why shouldn’t private companies? The project is a bad fit for our neighborhood.
Our voices and our presence at City Council makes a difference! Please attend the City Council Meeting on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at 7 pm to voice your opposition (8930 Limonite Avenue, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509).
