In Hamilton, you can receive hundreds of dollars in fines for parking on a residental street for over 12 hours. Even if your car is directly in front of your home, all that is required is a single complaint and you may have to pay hundreds of dollars.
It may be because you don't have room on your driveway or it may be because you don't have a driveway. If you leave your car on the street over the weekend, get sick and can't go to work or simply don't have the time to move your car every 12 hours, no matter the reason, your car may be towed and you will have to pay hundreds of dollars.
Let's tell the truth, many of us will break this bylaw at one point in our lives. This is because this bylaw is so unreasonable any of us could be victims. It can be so easily abused by pesky neighbors and many of us may not know it exists until you wake up one morning, walk to your car and see a ticket.
We want to extend this bylaw to 48 hours. This will make the bylaw more reasonable and flexible to different people and their schedules. It will also cover weekends and limit the possiblity of abuse.
