There are immediate safety changes needed at the Arlington Road & Mount Pleasant Road intersection.

The speed from traffic on Arlington Road makes it very dangerous to cross from either side of Mount Pleasant.

When traveling southbound on Arlington, and westbound on Mount Pleasant, the pine trees make it hard to clearly see the intersection.

Combined with speed, visual obstructions and distracted driving, this intersection is very dangerous.

If a driver isn’t familiar with the intersection, it could be confusing to understand in a split second, and a driver could easily mistake the intersection as a four way stop.

As for safety measures, there are multiple options that could immediately increase the safety at the Arlington & Mount Pleasant intersection:

-trimming or removal of pine trees

-transverse rumble strips on Arlington Road both southbound and northbound

-signage on Mount Pleasant stating that traffic from Arlington Road does NOT stop

-signage on Arlington warning of a dangerous intersection

-warning signs on both Arlington & Mount Pleasant

-increased flashing lights and signs

As for more long term fixes:

-a roundabout

-changes to the the grading of the hills on Arlington Road to reduce the slopes
