Save Barwon Heads Community Library

This petition had 300 supporters

Administrators voted at a City of Greater Geelong meeting to close Barwon Heads Library on the 30th of September. 10days notice was given on their website with no notice to members or community consultation.

We want a library with access to BOOKS, audio, newspapers, mags, music, dvd’s, e-books, the internet and children’s programs within walking distance to our homes. The library should be seen for its community value not for its minor cost.

A library service cannot be replaced by meeting rooms and childrens programs at the kindergarten. We want our library to remain open, improved and discuss access and hours that suit our village community. We would like to see equitable access for our all including younger and older people, the disabled and those unable to drive.

This library is for the future enjoyment and benefit of our community. Local libraries increase engagement, reduce isolation and perpetuate community spirit. At a time of growth in Barwon Heads we’d like to promote walking or riding to our local library and encourage community connectedness.

We do not want city centric decisions made using benchmarks not relevant to our village town. We would like to see Barwon Heads maintain a strong, vibrant connected community strengthened through a love of reading, enriched by learning and inspired by information and ideas.
