Robin Coward started this petition to City of Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie is trying once again to create a homeless shelter.  They have tried this before at the Parkside Hotel.  This was a disaster and was shut down due to violence, vagrancy, and theft.

Now they want to do the same thing in a major retail residential area.  The city is planning on spending millions and millions of our tax dollars to Purchase a Pomeroy Property that is a clear under performer for this project.  The new mayor who is a former VP of public relations for Pomeroy group has already had to recuse herself because of the major controversy about how a hotel of her former employer got chosen without consultation in the community.   The city has already got an accepted offer on this property with some conditions.

This project is on 100 st right across from the Prairie Mall and next to a Car Dealership and a Gun Range not to mention in close proximity to a community with many young families and children.

There is already a problem with vagrancy in this area.  Many businesses have had fires set to their property, employees abused both verbally and physically, property stolen and damaged. Many businesses have had people overdose in or on their property and have trouble maintaining staff who do not like the environment. On top of this there are many needles from drug use left laying around and untold amounts of Garbage to be picked up and cleaned from the homeless.  Putting this shelter in this area will increase and magnify these problems for both businesses and residents.

The city is using fluffy language and words around this project.  While this project has many great and noble attributes there are many other more fitting locations for a project like this.  Please sign this petition and let the city know that this is not the right location.  please see attached article regarding the failure of this same project recently in Grande Prairie.  By moving it you are only moving the problem.  https://www.dailyheraldtribune.com/news/local-news/supportive-housing-project-moving-out-of-parkside-inn-in-october
