Krystin Laferriere started this petition to City of Grande Prairie, AB and

As everyone is aware, Grande Prairie drivers like to go fast. Everyone always seems in a hurry these days. Recently I contacted the City concerned about the speed of drivers on my quiet residential road, I was informed that ALL residential streets are maximum of 50/km hour. Doesn't matter if it's a keyhole crescent or a main drag, every driver is allowed to go up to 50/km hr LEGALLY. As a mom of 3 young kids, I worry about them playing in the front yard because we live on straight part of the road. Drivers seem to think that it's a challenge and see how fast they can speed up after turning off the main drag before the curve in the road 200 yards from the turn. There is no reason why someone needs to be going 50km/hr in aresidential area, kids are around everywhere and its exhausting always telling them NO you cant play in the front yard with the neighbours. With exception to main roads, we should follow in the footsteps of gated communities and keep our families safer by lowering the residential speed limit to 30km/hr. This would give drivers some reaction time if a child or animal would run out from their homes. It would also cut down on noise pollution from trucks gunning their engines as they turn a corner. If we all do a small part, like signing this petition, we can help make Grande Prairie a little safer for our families!
