Casey Routledge started this petition to City of Grand Rapids Traffic Safety Department

As fall quickly approaches, the city of Grand Rapids will evaluate traffic data and allocate funding for the traffic safety department. For residents of the Boston Square neighborhood on the West side of Kalamazoo Ave, safety must be considered as vehicles use the neighborhood streets to cut a tangent from Kalamazoo Ave to Burton Street with alarming speeds mainly using Griggs, Newark, Nelson, and Silver.

While there are speed humps and traffic circles scattered throughout the neighborhood, they are not placed at the major thoroughfares in order to reduce speeding & reckless driving.  This is a request for the implementation of various traffic calming strategies that includes but is not limited to speed humps, traffic circles/center islands, and/or pedestrian crossing signs where necessary to ensure slow, safe passage of cars through our neighborhood alongside pedestrians.

The safety of pedestrian traffic, children playing, and dog walking are all at risk of collision as vehicles exceed speeds of 50mph regularly. Slower driving speeds allows for longer reaction times, more alert driving tendencies, and the recognition of pedestrian presence. With the voice of our neighborhood's residents, we can continue to improve everyone's safety.
