Community Support for Nature-Focused Daycare in Silverwood, NB

We believe that Silverwood is presently underserviced with respect to child care and that the need will only increase in the coming months and years.

There are three elementary schools in the surrounding area (Kingsclear Consolidated - 105 children; Wulastukw Elementary School - 55 children; Garden Creek Elementary School - 289 children). There are also several subdivisions in the area and new housing developments. Currently, for the most part, families have to travel into the city center for child care.

We are proposing to create a licensed childcare facility in Silverwood for children 15 months - 12 years of age. It will be a traditional child care center in the sense that it will offer amenities and trained staff found in any provincially licensed child care center. It will be unique in the Fredericton area with respect to its focus on nature and outdoor play. To put it simply, the learning will be taken outdoors.

Children will be encouraged, through interaction with nature, to learn and develop socially; to be physically active and emotionally fit; to develop self-confidence; to learn respect for their neighborhoods and environments; and to enjoy nature in safe and age-appropriate ways. Its 129 acres provide a beautiful, natural setting with open fields, woods, and streams.
