We are asking that the ordinance that has set residential speed limits in Fort Mitchell, KY at 25MPH be changed to lower the speed limit to 20MPH (if not even lower at 15MPH) for Woodlawn Avenue. We believe the safety of our children, other family members, neighbors, and pets are being put at risk by non-resident vehicles, delivery vehicles and even occasionally residents of the street who travel at 25MPH and often quite higher speeds. While the minimum goal will be to lower the speed limit and add another speed limit sign at another location on the street, we will also be pursing at least one more way to ensure the limit is enforced. As most travelers are not adherent to even the current speed limit, simply lowering the speed limit will not effectively change the actual speed at which most people travel.

We feel that an additional measure must be taken in order to effectively enforce the speed limit. We’ve witnessed time and again the blatant disregard of the sign that is currently at the entrance of Woodlawn Avenue. Speed limit enforcement is essentially an accident countermeasure, and one unenforced sign simply isn’t enough. Whether or not vehicle operators are aware of, specifically, the large number of children that reside on Woodlawn Avenue among other residents/pets, traveling at higher speeds is a clear and present danger, and one that must be brought to the forefront.

We are asking for an ordinance change, and at the very least one more way to enforce this change, for the safety of our children, ourselves, and our neighbors.
