The only LGBTQ+ friendly bar is Evolution, a very small, underfunded and underappreciated club for those who are undefined by the binary. The closure of the Ranch presents a great opportunity to restore the sordid history of the building, while creating a grander, more decadent space for the LGBTQ+ community as well as for people of colour. It would also create space for those living on the southside of the river, as accessibility is always an issue considering the great size of the city.

The main issue behind this proposal is the lack of capital, though this can be alleviated by loans and crowdfunding. Another issue that may arise is competition with Evolution, which could drive Evo into a precarious financial position. However, the value of the positives arguably supersede the possibility of negative outcomes; more space for the most vulnerable of Edmonton's population is a great boon, especially considering the continued rise of the alt-right and the UCP's grip on legislation adversely affecting LGBTQ+ folx of all ages.

Join me, and with enough support and funding, this could become a reality!
