We ask the City of Edinburgh Council to please protect and secure the future of the trees and green space in and around Meadowbank Stadium. Our city has beautiful parks and green spaces but it's also vital to protect the trees on city streets keeping nature alive and our spaces lovely places to live.

We are concerned about the future of the trees growing in and around Meadowbank Stadium as a result of the planned redevelopment.  Currently, as far as we are aware, there is no planning application in for the redevelopment of the site, however demolition is due to begin soon.
Our concern then is what is the future of the trees, and how can we ensure their safety?

We are worried, as a group of local residents, for the potential loss of the Wheatley Elms
(https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/directory_record/139199/wheatley_elms
which are a rare national species, and the area of grass and trees on London Road, which is intrinsic to the area. There are also large areas to the rear of the site which also contain mature trees, which are at threat.

The council has a Tree Charter and Trees in the City Action Plan, both of which highlight the importance of trees within the city.  Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen providing citizens with breathable air. They also provide much needed habitat for birds and insects, and specifically with the mounds on London Road, a pleasant place for members of the public, including children, to walk and play away from the road safely.
