Petition to Save Pilton Community Health Project #SavePCHP

On Friday 14th December 2018, the Edinburgh Integration Joint Board (made up of directors from NHS Lothian and the City of Edinburgh Council) took the decision to disinvest from Pilton Community Health Project - Scotland's oldest community health project - effectively shutting the project from March 31st 2019, after 34 years of working with the community.

We believe that the decision to close the project is unfair to people in our community and we do not accept it.

We ask the City of Edinburgh Council and NHS Lothian to secure project funding to enable Pilton Community Health Project to sustain the life-changing and life-saving work that we do in our community.

Support from members of the community
'Your support has been a lifeline – what a difference it has made! It has been invaluable and I don’t know where I’d be without this service.'

'I come here every week to the cooking groups and have made friends and we go out together to other places now.  I get great support as I can’t read very well...I really love it here. I’ve discovered things I didn’t know I could do...If it shuts down I don’t know what will happen to me.'

'Without [my worker’s] help my mental health would have been made worse and I may NOT have been here today if it wasn't for the support I received.'

'I volunteer at PCHP and have been very impressed with the work that the dedicated staff do to help those on the margins of our community. For many people living in the north of Edinburgh, PCHP is a very important resource and support.'

'I can’t believe PCHP could close. I’ll be gutted about this if the support isn’t here. It's invaluable to feel part of the community. It would be devastating for everyone and a great loss. I’ve made friendships from here and it’s nice to be able to give back now.'

'Pilton Community Health Project is one of the very few places I feel safe in. If this place closes, I will be devastated, I don’t think anything can take its place.'

'The Impact of removing this service will be hugely detrimental to a vulnerable group and may have long-term effects on their health and wellbeing. I would ask you to reconsider your decision.' - Local Specialist Physiotherapist

'PCHP is such a crucial all-encompassing hub offering vital services to a rich community which can really flourish given the opportunity, save PCHP - don’t take that opportunity away.' - Local Park Ranger

'[D]o the Council realise what a crucial service you provide for so many vulnerable people in such a deprived area?!' - Local Service Manager

'We genuinely had students eat salad for the first time. We had students taste healthy alternatives for the first time. Learn how to prepare healthy snacks and meals very easily at low cost. 'I find it astonishing that such a valued and well-respected community organisation, which such a deep track record of making a genuine difference for people of all ages, is at risk.  I cannot remember a time in my lifetime when community organisations such as PCHP have been needed more.' - Chief Executive, Spartans
