Speed limit to be reduced to 25mph in residential zones

I am starting this petition in hopes that the City of Edgewater will reduce the speed limit in residential zones to 25 mph, in particular Florida Shores.

Currently the speed limit in Florida Shores is 30 mph. With this neighborhood having lots of children outside playing, people walking their dogs, joggers, and bicyclists both adults and kids, 30 mph is too fast. Majority of drivers are going more than the speed limit even when children are at play. Multiple non emergency calls have been made with still nothing done. Code enforcement suggested putting a sign in my yard that states "caution children at play", but with children already outside playing and drivers still don't slow down, a sign in my front yard will not make a difference. We've attempted putting cones in the road, code enforcement said cannot be 2' from our property. Cones helped some, but there has been drivers intentionally swerving to the side to run the cones over and shout at us that our children should be riding their bikes in the backyard. Children and adults in this neighborhood should feel safe when outside being active, not in fear that they are going to be hit by one of these reckless drivers. I hope that lowering the speed limit to 25 it will be a start to slow drivers down and be more cautious. It's time the city of Edgewater addresses its citizens concerns and takes action to keep the people in this community safe.

Please help me in signing this petition before February 6, when I bring this to the next city council meeting.
