Just Say No to an asphalt mill in our Detroit neighborhoods!
Why this petition matters

ASI JBE Holdings LLC recently requested approval to establish an asphalt mixing facility on the old Farmer Jack warehouse site at I-96 and Southfield Freeway.
This request was denied on Nov. 30, 2021 by the Detroit Buildings, Safety Engineering & Environmental Department (BSEED), including recommendations to deny from the Detroit Planning and Development Department, the Detroit Environmental Affairs Division, and the Wayne County Department of Public Health Environmental Services Group due to "the very high-impact nature of the proposed asphalt production plant, heavy vehicle traffic associated with the use (over 100 trucks daily) and its proximity" to nearby residential communities.
Additionally, this activity (asphalt mixing plant) "does not comply with the current Master Plan of Policies Future Land Use designation of Light Industrial and thus could aggravate any pre-existing physical, social or economic deterioration of the adjacent residential neighborhoods."
We the residents of nearby northwest Detroit neighborhoods urge the Board of Zoning Appeals to uphold BSEED's decision and keep our neighborhoods free of this asphalt mixing facility.
