Aurelio Martinez started this petition to City of Denver and

As many of you are aware, Mestizo-Curtis Park is the icon of Denver neighborhoods. Denver’s first neighborhood as a matter of fact.

As a child in the 60’s I remember walking to Gilpin Elementary (not ten miles in the snow) but two blocks. As an adolescent, I attended Cole Jr. High and graduated from Manual High School in 73. Go Thunderbolts!!

In the sixties, to the mid-seventies, the neighborhood was in a condemned state with many homes vacant and rotting. Mestizo-Curtis Park struggled to remain a bona fide neighborhood, no one cared, but still, it was home to us.

Mestizo-Curtis Park not only survived troubled times but today is considered the elite, the best neighborhood in Denver. The historic homes built in the 1800s now and once again display their beauty!

Mestizo-Curtis Park no longer is in danger of being condemned but we are facing a very serious issue and I’m riding my horse and yelling “the developers are coming; the developers are coming!”

A PUD [Zone change] has been requested for the block surrounded by Lawrence, Larimer, 26th, and 27th Streets that will allow a seven-story monstrosity of a building. The impact on our neighborhood will be devastating. From what I understand, the city has received a letter of support from Ryan Cox, president on behalf of the Curtis Park Neighborhood Association, misleading the city into believing the residents of Mestizo-Curtis Park are all in favor of this project. Nothing could be further than the truth, and the city needs to be aware that there is very strong opposition.

If you live in the Mestizo-Curtis Park neighborhood, within the boundaries of Park Avenue, Downing, Lawrence, and California streets, please take the time in signing our online petition or call me (720) 297-7654 and I will meet with you so may sign a physical petition. All adults over the age of 18 and renters may sign the petition.
