At this point in the pandemic, school-aged children are not in extreme danger from contracting Covid. All of the population ages 5+ has had ample time to make the choice to get fully vaccinated. Vulnerable parties can choose remote or home schooling, or can mask their children with n95s as they see fit. School children and their teachers and staff need to be able to see and hear each other unhindered for their social development, speech and hearing, and mental health. At this point, the cost of masking in schools outweighs the benefits.  Furthermore, the number of recent infections means we have achieved much higher immunity than earlier, when masking made sense as the world waited for vaccines and learned about the severity of Covid.  We call on Denver Mayor Hancock to lift the Denver school mask mandate. If the quarantine rules adversely affect kids who aren’t vaccinated, perhaps those parents will rethink their choices—or live with the quarantine downside.
