M Peace started this petition to City of Dearborn

Orville L. Hubbard, Mayor of Dearborn, Michigan from 1942-1978, was a well known segregationist who was also known as the "Dictator of Dearborn". His policies made it clear that people of color were not welcome in Dearborn, indeed at the end of his term there were as few as 20 individuals of color living in the city. The generations that followed grew up in the shadow of this policy, and even today it is unspoken knowledge that people of color are still discouraged from shopping or living in the area.

Times have changed, and Dearborn has become a multi-cultural city with a thriving Arabic-American community. The statue of Orville Hubbard has a plaque officially denouncing his racist tenure, and it's time to do away with the street bearing his name. We no longer need to honor racists, and to rename the street, possibly with the name of a prominent Arab-American community organizer, would be steps along the path of healing a generational racial divide.
