While I commend the idea of helping others, these funds could be better spent on things that actually help this population. This program has increased the number of discarded, used syringes in our parks, school, and public spaces. Both Sheriff Honea & Chico Police Chief Mike O'Brien also oppose this program. Its been in play since October & the program is clearly failing. This population is vulnerable & needs helps but I do not see this as a benefit to them but rather a way to keep them there. Addicts need purpose, connection, community, boundaries, and structure not enabling.

Pictured are the advertised 2019 achievements of the Northern Valley Harm Reduction Coalition. Love it or hate it the list is predominately highlighting the needle program (this leaves out that most needles handed out haven't been turned back in for proper disposal because its only highlighting the perceived "wins"), the increases in education & dispersal of Narcan overdose treatments, internal operational "wins", and disease testing. Only ONE line item related to program based help for this population.

(Note the article states staff reached out to the Northern Valley Harm Reduction Coalition multiple times on this with no reply received.)
