Beneath the veneer of this beautiful City lies a heartless administration that disconnects the water of the most vulnerable of our society. Many of our elderly residents has had their water disconnected without warning. Some of these residents has had their water disconnected for more than a year.

Mr and Mrs Petersen’s water has been off since March 2020 – just before the pandemic. Mr Petersen and his wife are both in their seventies, both diabetic and Mr Petersen’s suffers from a chronic disease due to his many years of work at the Athlone power station. Mrs Petersen gets up at 4am to catch the drops of water falling from the tap to fill a container to clean herself. The Petersen’s has given away half their clothes in all the months that the water has been disconnected. Why, because it piled up and was smelling. They could not wash all their clothes. What about the toilets? They are dependent on their church group for water. There are just too many of these stories.

This policy has become pervausive within the COCT. What kind of government disconnects water in a pandemic. WATER IS A HUMAN RIGHT as enshrined in our constitution. ACT NOW. The POWER of the PEOPLE is STRONGER than the PEOPLE in POWER.
