SAY NO! TO PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT ON WATER STREET AND HIGHMAN AVENUE
Why this petition matters
Say NO to the PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT ON HIGHMAN AVE AND WATER STREET
LJM Developments has applied to the City of Cambridge to build 5-15 story apartment buildings directly on Water Street, while demolishing 62 Highman Avenue to create a "parkette" with a staircase leading to Water Street.
These apartments and townhomes will have 991 units with 5 levels of parking of 1176 parking spaces.
The environmental IMPACT this will have is far reaching.
**This build will destroy animal’s habitat and take away beautiful green space close to the Grand River. This land is rife with trees, rabbits, fox, coyotes, deer, countless birds, snakes, frogs, etc.
**Over 600 trees the will be town down.
SAFETY IS A HUGE CONCERN. This proposed development will create huge problems with traffic, congestion, pollution and overcrowding of the small and mature neighbourhood. Not to mention overcrowding Water St. with more cars and possible flooding. THIS PROPOSAL IS ON FLOODPLAIN LANDS.
**There are two properties adjacent to the site that have been designated by the City of Cambridge as 'heritage', including an Ontario gothic farmhouse built in 1860. These buildings will be in jeopardy of being ruined, injured or destroyed.
There will be a public meeting on Tuesday August 10th - https://calendar.cambridge.ca/council
