Stop the Bike Lanes/Tracks in downtown Calgary

This petition had 1,731 supporters

The bike lanes are costing tax payers $7MM + dollars and creating even MORE traffic downtown.  We don't have a long enough season to warrant such a drastic change.  Many people share the belief that this project is a waste of our money with no real pay-off.  (A lot of bicyclists downtown don't even use the designated bike lanes or obey the "bike only" traffic lights that are installed or any other traffic lights for that matter).  We'd like to discuss how to keep bicyclists safe while riding to, and in downtown, and still be able to keep car traffic lanes flowing.  We're requesting that The City of Calgary stop the current downtown bike-lane project, as it just isn't working, and consider alternatives.  We'd also like to encourage all Calgarians, (those who sign this petition and those who don't) to furnish ideas for other options that will keep the commute safe for all, and keep traffic flowing.

IF you agree with this petition, please put your name down and have the City of Calgary hear us.  On May 19, 2015, the Calgary Sun reported that the City has decided to test this downtown bike lane project for a full year regardless of how Calgarians feel.  That doesn't sound democratic to me.  We can make a difference by letting the City of Calgary know that we don't support the bike lanes downtown and we want the project to stop immediately.
