Michael Lee started this petition to City of Calgary

The City of Calgary downtown core lacks trees!

It's not the first city to have this problem, but it is a city that has yet to attempt to rectify it. The City has been shaped by concrete and nothing more. A few stick like trees here and there doesn't cut it. Even our parks are filled with concrete (looking at your Riverwalk pathway make-over)! Not to mention, the city cuts down any old growth trees and paves over green areas without a second thought. It's sad and creates a grey, dull look.

Calgary must plant trees and vegetation throughout the downtown core to create a more attractive looking city. Tree flowers are a huge benefit to bees. Trees help clean our air. Maintenance of trees creates jobs. It has so many benefits!

The City of Calgary only stands to benefit long term as the trees grow and become even more beautiful. Stephen avenue is a great walk, but it has only a few plants and trees. A variety of beautifully maintained trees would make for an even more vibrant experience.

I believe the city of Calgary at a minimum should plant 10'000 trees, many of them downtown.

If the city of New York can plant 1 million trees for a city of 8.3 million people. 10'000 should be easy for a city with a population of 1.5 million people.
