Economy: Calgary made it work before and can make it work again. Olympic events are expensive, but Calgary is well suited to run a responsible budget and reap the benefits for many years to come. Long term benefits include sporting venues, public transportation, cultural recognition, volunteering spirit, boost in tourism. Calgary already has the framework, and can vastly improve on these qualities.
Infrastructure: The legacy infrastructure built in 1988, while well used, is dated and should be refreshed. Building new facilities for an Olympic event will help all sporting franchises established in Calgary, as well as countless athletic programs in the city. Transportation infrastructure and new neighbourhoods are other long lasting advantages.
Culture: Calgary is a world class city and deserves world class events. Already a multicultural metropolis, Calgary can benefit from the recognition such an event brings. The Olympic Games can be a showcase for the culture and people of Calgary and the region, from First Nations to its western cowboy heritage and to its multi-cultural, ethnically diverse citizens.
Tourism: Calgary is the gateway to the Rockies and tourism in the entire region can be greatly increased by an Olympic event. Lodging built for the event will then serve the boosted hospitality business.
