Keep the Doherty Park Safe

We, the undersigned, are concerned families who urge our leaders to act now to remove the dogs from the Doherty Playground in Charlestown or enclose the children's area in fences. At this time the dogs are allowed to run off leash in the play area. This poses a risk of biting to all people, not just the children, in the park. They are allowed to go to the bathroom on the rubber surface of the children's play and swing area. Their feces and any remnants left are toxic and could cause many children to get sick. They must be removed to protect the children. The EPA states that ingesting even a small amount of dog feces could cause cramps, intestinal illness and serious kidney disorders in adults and are even more dangerous to children. We have asked the owners to please leave the play area with no cooperation at all. Please support us in having these dogs removed or the park enclosed to keep the dogs out and the children safe to play.
