We need a stop sign at London & Hastings
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
Please sign the petition asking the City of Benicia to put in a stop sign at Hastings and London Drive. Drivers speed too fast going up and down the hill putting residents and school children at risk. Hastings residents have tolerated totaled cars, boats and mailboxes over the years because there is nothing to force drivers to slow down. (See photo of my totaled car.) Furthermore, this intersection is a major thoroughfare between Joe Henderson Elementary School, Benicia Middle School and Benicia High School which becomes congested during the school time commute. The wildlife in the open space and Benicia State Park joggers are additional reasons to slow traffic in the area.
In the half mile stretch of Hastings Drive from Southampton to Capitol, there have been a total of 61 traffic collisions since 1994, according to a report from the Benicia Police Department. Nearly one out of every three of those collisions resulted in an injury. The city's traffic calming program is 103 pages, making it challenging to achieve results without jumping through several months of bureaucratic hoops. (Neighbors completed the program around 2010, but the city still found a stop sign unnecessary.) Hopefully, the city will be more responsive to our stop sign request if enough Benicians sign this petition. This affects more than just the residents in the neighborhood – it affects the safety of the entire town. Please sign and share! Thank you.
There will be a traffic meeting regarding this topic at 7 p.m. on April 20th at Benicia City Hall.
