Over and over again Belen has continued to flood after heavy rainstorms, causing major damages to homes and businesses. In 2018, the  same canal breached 3 times. Yet again, the City of Belen has failed to create a reliable solution that will prevent the highland canal from breaching again. According to KRQE, the 1.7 million dollars given to the city in 2019 was never spent. This 1.7 million dollars could be extremely useful in solving this constant problem.

Instead of diverting precious water away from Belen, reinforce the existing Canal with concrete. Canal lining is a highly effective solution which will not only drastically reduce the chances of flooding, but it can save uf to 80% of water lost in unlined canals. These solutions would keep more water available for farmers, little maintenance, and we wouldn't have to worry about the canal flooding our small town again. 

This issue can't be ignored any longer! Sign my petition for the people, farmers, and small business owners of Belen.
