Stop Gentrification of Austin
Stop Gentrification of Austin
Austin is the 10th fastest gentrifying city in the nation. Gentrification of Austin, specifically the Domain-like development being planned in North Austin, threatens to displace many UT students who live in lower income housing. Students are already being affected by rising housing prices on West Campus, and this sort of gentrification is detrimental not only to residents and students, but also to Austin's culture. According to Fred McGhee, a historical archaeologist and community activist, politicians have historically ignored the needs of low-income residents and people of color and instead supported the wishes of white voters and profit-driven developers. Let's draw their attention and show them that Austin cares about its students, its people and its culture. Stand up to money-hungry developers. Sign the petition.
