Recent surveys have ranked Cumberland County NJ dead last in the state in overall health and quality of life. I find these statistics to be very disappointing and discouraging for our community. Of the many statistics, the few that stood out the most to me that seem easily fixable were our "Access to exercise opportunities" where we ranked 30% below the state average!!! Also, "Physical inactivity" where we ranked 5% above the state average and 9% above the national average. Albeit many other factors go into our county being ranked last in the state, I believe we should call upon our city leaders to give citizens of our county access to living a better quality of life. Gearing our city parks towards the enhancement of public health seems like an obvious action to take and a foot in the right right direction. I'm proposing the building of an outdoor fitness courses within our city parks. Namely Joseph Romano sports complex at this time. There is a perfect spot within the track area where citizens would have easy access to workout. Walking or running the track and using the future training equipment inside the track! My hope is that this would lead to multiple "fitness courses" being built throughout the Cumberland County area. Hopefully the city of Vineland can lead the way!
