Marianne Engle started this petition to City Council St. Petersburg

Galvanize corrugated metal has become increasingly popular as a fencing material, yet many cities have not updated their codes to reflect this as a viable, sustainable option.

We are requesting the City Council of St. Petersburg takes their residents request to make corrugated metal a viable, sustainable option as fencing material, into account when deciding on this issue, which we understand is already been discussed during City Council meetings in regards to changing the fence ordinance.

I started this petition because...
After moving to St. Petersburg in 2015, we erected a corrugated metal fence in 2016. We consulted with Zoning prior to erecting the fence to confirm that our material choice was permitted. The fence is up to code on all requirements. In June of 2016 a neighbor filed a complaint with Code Enforcement because he disliked the material. Code Enforcement sent us a violation notice, asking that the fence be removed. Keep in mind, we were told that the material was not an issue. However, Code Enforcement operates on a "complaint based system", and a zoning official and code enforcement official decided that they felt my particular fence was not aesthetically pleasing and should be removed. Our neighborhood alone has 6 such fences and we have been the only ones that have been asked to remove ours. Zoning and Code Enforcement officials have stated that one of the other fences was approved by Development Review, however after conducting a public records request, no documentation in regards to this was to be found. This is A. not a violation of the ordinance B. it is a case of selective enforcement, which seem to happen all to often. Fast forward, we will be going to trial as pro-se litigants in this case in May and anybody that has fought "City-Hall" knows what an ordeal this is. From what I understand City Council is in the process of changing the ordinance to "officially" include corrugated metal as a viable option for fencing material. So I am asking you hereby to help bring St. Petersburg Florida into the 20th century. St. Petersburg prides itself as being an ART COMMUNITY, let's show them that this applies to all aspects of BURG life!

Thank you, Marianne Engle "Burger"
