Open Heritage Oaks Golf Course

Open Heritage Oaks Golf Course
Why this petition matters
Heritage Oaks Golf Course is a gem for the city of Harrisonburg, attracting players, not just from our area, but also people who travel here just to play the course. One of the reasons the course is so popular among people is that it is known to be one of the most beautiful and well maintained courses in the area. Heritage Oaks is used by the HHS, TAHS, SHS, JMU, EMHS, and the EMU golf teams. The golf course is also used by the First Tee program that is offered to any Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Page, or Augusta County resident from 5-17 years of age. If the golf course is closed all of these teams will have to move to other golf courses to practice and play matches. I as a player on the HHS golf team, love having the course so close to to the school and home because it gives me easy access for a healthy exercise while playing a sport I enjoy. Unlike other courses who restrict players to members only, Heritage Oaks is a public course open to anyone with extremely reasonable rates. Municipalities do not have a Parks and Recreation Department in the hopes of making money. They have it to provide amenities to citizens. If you close the golf course what’s next the swimming pool or Hillandale Park?
